WriterZen Review - The Best All In One Content Marketing Software?

WriterZen is a content marketing platform that will help you start with a seed keyword or topic, generate thousands of keyword ideas, filter them for difficulty (similar to KGR), generate headline ideas, then create a content brief and optimize the content in their editor.  It truly is an all in one content marketing tool.

Writer Zen Features

  • Content Briefs

  • Topic Research

  • Keyword Research

  • Keyword All In Title Check

  • Keyword Clusters

  • Plagiarism Check

How Can You Use WriterZen To Your Benefit

You can use it for the full content marketing process.  From topic discovery, to keyword research, article creation, etc.  You can even find valuable topics that your competitors have not yet covered and hopefully get some fast traffic.  Plan out very specific and in depth categories across your website and cluster them for maximum relevance then send your content briefs off to your writers.

Topic Research

Using its topic discovery tool you can provide it a keyword or phrase and it will spit out relevant topics that you could write about.  You can sort the keyword ideas by search volume or relevancy.  After that you can use it to generate headline ideas for any of the keywords you like.

  • Search Volume
  • Relevancy
  • Headline Ideas

Keyword Research

WriterZen's keyword explorer will help you quickly sort through a wide variety of related keywords after giving it one seed keyword to start with.  You can quickly view and sort by search volume, trend, cost per click, keyword difficulty, allintitle, or KGR (aka keyword golden ratio which is a phrase that I think was popularized by Doug Cunnington.  You can use this to quickly find long tail keywords that meet KGR specs.

  • Search Volume
  • Search Volume Trend
  • Cost Per Click (CPC)
  • Keyword Difficulty
  • Bulk All In Title Checks (allintitle:)
  • Keyword Golden Ration

Keyword Clustering

Next you can use the software to group keywords together and plan out your website in depth.  It also pulls in questions from Google's people also ask and related searches.  You can quickly add these into clusters to make sure you cover the topic thoroughly.  You can also search by domain to quickly reverse engineer your competitors most valuable keywords.  Save your keywords for later use in up to 50 databases of 1000 keywords each.

  • People Also Ask Questions
  • Related Keywords Suggestions
  • Competitor Keyword Research

Content Creation

Now that you have a list of both the most valuable and easiest keywords to target in your niche you can use the content creation part of WriterZen.  After you give it your target keyword, it will compare the top 20 webpages that are currently ranking on the SERP.  It will suggest a content structure based on the leading competitors.   For example it might suggest 2000 words, 12 heading tags, 16 paragraphs, 4 exact keywords, and 10 partial keywords all based on averages of your competitors.

So to sum it up it essentially uses the currently ranking pages to create a blueprint for you to build the perfect page. The content editor will help you see your progress in real time and keep you from becoming overoptimized.

WriterZen Vs Surfer SEO

I was pleasantly surprised by how much functionality they have packed into this and still managed to keep it user friendly.   In terms of the keyword research and content planning features WriterZen and Surfer both have similar functionality and will both accomplish these tasks well.  Their UIs are different so that will come down to personal preference.

The main difference between the two is that Surfer SEO goes much deeper in depth into some of its functionality like their SERP Analyzer and Audit.  Both of these tools in Surfer SEO gather a lot more data across more webpages and utilize correlation to suggest changes that have the best chances at improving your rankings.

WriterZen is definitely a great start and will work great as long as you don't target topics with high competition.  Thankfully it does have the keyword difficulty tools to help find low competition keywords.

I think a great strategy would be to start with a tool like WriterZen and as long as you aren't targeting high competition keywords it should be enough to drive traffic.  If you are targeting high volume keywords or get stuck,  that's when you should move on to Surfer and dig deep to get every advantage you can.  I think they could both work together really well in a strategy like this.

WriterZen Pricing

WriterZen has a 7 day free trial that you can start without even entering a credit card.  Their paid plan starts at $39 per month.  All of their plans have similar functionality, the main difference is just the usage allowed.  I like that it doesn't remove functionality for the free plan.

The basic plan starts you out with the following credits:

  • 50 keyword lookups per day
  • 25,000 keyword credits per month
  • 50 content briefs per month
  • 15 AI credits per month
  • 50 Topic discovery searches per day
  • 25,000 plagiarism credits per day

I also really like that they give you the ability to top up your credits with a one time purchase if you ever run out during a month.

Conclusion

Pros:

It also has some nice features added in that other tools that have a wide variety of features are often missing like the KGR and allintitle checks and the AHRefs UR and DR metrics.

I was surprised how many keywords it suggested.  For a one word seed it suggested over 6,000 keywords.  The only downside was that it said it would take nearly 300 minutes to perform the allintitle checks.  Luckily, it finished those checks in about 10 minutes max.  Thats well worth the wait since you can be sure you have thoroughly checked all the keyword ideas.

  • Golden Keywords Check (similar to KGR or the keyword golden ratio)
  • Bulk All In Title Check
  • LARGE Keyword Ideas List

Cons:

Content Editor is just ok - The one thing I did not like as much with Writer Zen is the content editor.  It works ok, but after using Surfer SEO for awhile, its just not as user friendly or as easy to optimize a page with.

Final Thoughts

I was pleasantly surprised with the functionality and ease of use of WriterZen.  Up until now, I have been using Surfer SEO plus Conversion AI to help generate content.  Its been a great combination and has definitely generated results and traffic.

Overall WriterZen is a great content marketing software that will help you from start to finish: keyword research, content planning and clustering, content briefs, content optimization, etc.  I recommend it highly for anyone that does content marketing.

Lately, I have been using Writer Zen nearly every single day.  I think its one of the best keyword research tools on the market.  I use the content brief feature, but so far I still prefer Surfer's content editor over WriterZen.  I'd give WriterZen a 5/5 for keyword research and 4/5 for the content editor, averaging out to 4.5 out of 5 stars.  I think its a must have tool for every serious content marketer, site owner, or writer.
